Central Texas Historical Association

2020 Annual Conference

Embassy Suites Hotel

College Station, Texas

April 24 & 25, 2020

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE

TO COVID-19 OUTBREAK.  SEE MESSAGE BELOW.

Dear CTHA Members,

The CTHA Board of Directors and Executive Director have been monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak closely.   We had hoped that the spread of the virus might abate, but clearly it has not. After much discussion, research, and careful deliberation, the CTHA Board of Directors have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s annual conference in College Station, Texas.  There have been many developments in the last few days that have made this decision a necessary one. The COVID-19 Task Force at numerous universities/colleges and historical associations have put a halt on all events, conferences and other large gatherings scheduled through the end of the spring semester. We will work with the Embassy Suite hotel in College Station to reschedule the conference in the fall.  As soon as we determine a definitive date for the meeting, we will send out an update.

Preparation for the Annual Conference is several months in the making, and the Board of Directors did not make this decision lightly.  The Program Committee, chaired by 2nd Vice President Ron Goodwin, worked diligently to put together a program for our event.  We know that many of you have spent time and energy preparing for your sessions, and we hope to have the opportunity to hear your presentations in the fall. But, in the end, the health of our members, vendors, and staff, as well as our obligation to public health more generally, had to take precedence.

What you need to know:

1. If you made travel arrangements, we recommend that you cancel your travel arrangements and hotel reservations as soon as possible. Most hotels will charge you for your room if you do not cancel at least 24 to 72 hours before your scheduled check-in date.

2. Because we have not started the conference registration process, CTHA will not need to refund registration fees.

3. We ask that you help spread the word about the cancellation of the CTHA Conference.  The CTHA will contact the offices of ETHA, WTHA, and STHA, asking them to send a notification to their members about the cancellation of the meeting.

Thank you again for your support and patience during this difficult time.  We wish you and your family good health and safety during what has turned into a national emergency.  We hope that you will take every precaution to protect you and your family during this most difficult of times.

We look forward to seeing you in the fall! Any questions can be directed to CTHA Executive Director, Kenneth Howell at kennethhowell67@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Ken
